THE ART OF THINKING CLEARLY, Book Review

If you are not part of solution, then you are part of the problem

Hello guys and welcome. Its your boy Ibrahim.

Have you ever thought about the treasures that life holds for us? What’s the purpose of our exitance? Do we really know what we are destined to do? What’s the concept of thinking and why we have given the ability of thinking?

If you are also eager to find out these answers, then you are in a right place, stay tune!

Do you love to read psychology books which tells you about the way of living? If yes, then the book, “The ART of Thinking Clearly” is surely written for you by Rolf Dobelli.

This book helps us make better decisions in life. However, rather trying to introduce new behaviors, it want's us to recognize and then cut out some common errors of judgement we fall prey on a regular basis.

So, before starting first talk about the writer.

Rolf Dobelli born on July15, 1966 is a Swiss author and businessman. He has an MBA and a PHD in economic philosophy.  He began his writing career as a novelist in 2002, but he is best known internationally for his non fiction book, “The Art of Thinking Clearly”.

For this book, THE TIMES has called him, THE SELF HELP GURU THE GERMANS LOVE!

This book has been translated into 40 different languages and has been sold more than 6 million copies worldwide.

Now let’s talk about this book. So, “THE ART OF THINKING CLEARLY” was originally written in German and later on was translated into English and several other languages.

Interestingly, writer didn’t write it as a book but as different essays and columns, later they were combined and was given a book shape.

So, in this book, Rolf Dobelli dives deep into many common psychological biases. With specific examples of these thought patterns and ways to overcome them, this book is both entertaining and informative.

No matter how smart you think you are, this will shed light on some of the weak points in your thinking and make you wiser.

In short, this book is the combination of 99 short chapters in which writer describes the most common thinking error including envy, social distortions and many more.

I like this book due to two reasons. Firstly, it is divided into short segments so you can easily read it in your spare time. Secondly, it is interesting and contains a number of examples of our daily lives due to which we feel a strong connection with this book.

Following are 6 lessons which I learnt from this epic book.

                        So, lets begin:

11.        Never Underestimate Success:

It does not mean, in anyway, that you should not dream big. It just says that don’t get overwhelmed by the number of success stories you read and assume that success would be easy. No one prints the failure stories cause nobody is interested in them.

    2.       You Focus More on Loosing:

The fear of loosing something motivates people more than the prospect of gaining something of equal value.

   3.      It is not what you say but how you say, that’s Important:

It’s a common observation that 99% fat free product seems healthier than a product with 1% Fat. However, they both are same. Hence, our mind focuses on how you are saying instead of what you are saying.

   4.     Follow your passion:

Do what you love instead of what you are asked to.

5 5.      Money does not always motivates you:

Many people believe that money is always the driving factor. But that’s completely wrong because most of billionaires work, due to their passion instead of material things.

   6.     Presence is more noticeable then absence:

Mind thinks more about the present scenario than the absent one. For example, presence of disease is much more noticeable than its absence. Hence, for better life, start thinking more about what did not happen instead of what should happen.

So, that’s what I have learnt from this book and I will highly recommend you too read it and know the secret of happy life.

Until next time, keep thinking keep growing and as always, dream it, be it!
